Your Way Right Away!
You know where this leads? This is a refusal or neglect to accept God’s direction in your life. It will lead to problems and more problems. This person is headed for defeat and ruin.
Honestly this is where we were all once headed. It was the direction of my heart and the habit of my life once upon a time. I am sure you could also relate to this past description before Christ saved your soul. This is true of all men and it is our natural desire to fulfill our own lusts and selfish pursuits. Jeremiah 17:9 states that our hearts are deceitful and desperately wicked. Our own wisdom isn’t sufficient in pleasing God or dealing with our own problems.
The Lord knows the thoughts of man, That they are futile.
We as people have a tendency to be selfish and full of pride. We want what we want and at times will do or say anything to get it. Now you say I am a Christian and that is not me! Well as Christians we often have wrong thinking; such as those who state “God only helps those who help themselves.” Maybe those who think that God is their “Sugar Daddy.” Maybe you believe that God is a God of love and would never send people to hell. These are all wrong ways of thinking and are unbiblical. Even “Christians” sometimes have false belief systems.
Aside from that, Christians still struggle in the flesh and Paul clearly reveals his struggle in Romans 7:18-25; this is just as true for us today. We are inherently corrupt, unapproved, and worthless if left to ourselves.
They profess to know God, but in works they deny him, being abominable, disobedient, and disqualified for every good work.
This is not an easy pill to swallow and often our pride blinds us to our own sin and shame. Now that is obviously not the end of the story because we know that Jesus can save our soul through his sacrifice on the cross. That his life was sufficient and his death was accepted once and for all. Those who are called and trust in his substitution and are willing to turn from their sin will be saved from God's wrath. We also understand that God has preserved his word as our guide-book.
So what happens to a person that causes them to make terrible decisions; Christian or non-christian? What causes them to begin this downward spiral?
- Problems begin in the heart
For out of the heart comes evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false witness, slander. Matthew 15:19
- Heart problems lead to unbiblical deeds
- See Romans 1:18-32
- Unbiblical deeds lead to bad feelings
So the Lord said to Cain, “Why are you angry? And why is your countenance fallen? If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin lies at the door. And its desire is for you, but you should rule over it.” Genesis 4:6-7
Are you caught in this downward spiral? Have you allowed your mind (interchangeable with heart) to be deceived by the world? Have you bought the lies of satan? Have you neglected truth from God’s word and now you find yourself making bad choices?
Listen we have all been there and done that!
God has promised us that he will never leave us if we are his. He has also promised to discipline his children just as an earthly father would. God will not tolerate our sin.
