For unto us a Child is born,
Unto us a Son is given;
And the government will be upon His shoulder.
And His name will be called
Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Christmas is always a joyful time. A time of shopping, surprises, and stress! Christmas is so much fun especially in our home with two very excited boys. Wrapping the gifts and putting up the Christmas tree draws the celebration much closer. Spending time gazing at lights and sipping hot cocoa makes this cold season worth it. This year we have even decided to teach our boys about Hanukkah. Each night we have burned the candles on the Menorah and watched them fade while talking about its history. We even let the boys sit on Santa’s lap (they wish he was real).
All these joyful things are not the real reason for celebration though. The birth of Christ is the true celebration. Without this miraculous birth we would have no savior. We would continue in our depraved state. Christ made it possible for us to have a substitute. He allowed true joy and peace to enter into our hearts. We can look back in faith and know that this birth was just the beginning. It was just the start of true redemption and of fulfilled promises carried out by God him self.
This season we can rest in the fact that God took care of every detail. From the beginning of time God set things in order. He knew that he was the only person who could bear his own wrath. He knew that a human had to die for other humans. He knew that we needed a savior. So he sent himself in the flesh to be born of a virgin and live a perfect life so we could be saved from our filth.
Without the birth there would be no cross and without the cross there would be no resurrection. Without the resurrection God would be a liar and we would still be lost. We would still be grasping at the wind. We would be headed straight for hell with no one to blame but ourselves. But to think that God would humble himself to be born into our world, knowing what he knew about us, makes this season truly joyous!
I thank God for keeping his promises and for being faithful to me! God bless you this holiday season. Merry Christmas!
With Great Love and Truth,
