Five minute Friday: Visit

Visit …

I think about my line of work as a long-term care nurse. I understand dealing with the elderly can be difficult and burdensome. It isn’t easy hearing the same stories and describing the last 5 minutes over and over again ….

Those of you who have been in this situation know exactly what I mean. The elderly can ware a caregiver down just like children do a mother. At times they maybe unaware of safety hazards, or lose control of bodily functions, they may become so weak and frail they are unrecognizable. The pain of a beloved family member looking at you as a stranger runs deeper than imagined.

Those who are placed in a facility like the many I have worked in over the last 11 years, they feel like a prison! No matter how comfortable, sweet-smelling, or safe you make it, it’s not the same. It is and will never be home. Many people have researched and placed their family members carefully but others they sign off and forget about them.

Many never even visit …

  1. May God’s grace abound toward you as you provide care and comfort to your patients, serving as His hands, and offering His loving touch, even when doing so is taxing. Blessings to you. Visiting from Five Minute Friday.

  2. Thank you for serving the forgotten elderly. I am an OR nurse. My mom recently had a bilateral knee replacement and spent time in a longterm care facility for rehab. It’s good to know there are still nurses who really love their patients. Nursing is not what it was 30 years ago. Visiting from FMF.
