As I sat and drank my coffee this morning I began to think about the history of Israel. I recalled the faithfulness of God to his people and how their story took so many twists and turns. This story is a drama but a very peaceful one in the end.
God has never abandoned his people. God had expectations and rules that incurred consequences if not respected. He always kept his promises and always desired to redeem his people from the slave market of sin.
I sat down and read the account of Ruth. During the time of the judges Ruth married Naomi’s son and was grafted into the Israelite people. Ruth was of special character and God used her greatly. Not only did she loose her husband but she had no children and was living in a strange land. She cared for her mother-in-law and honored her relationship to her. Here is a list of Ruth’s godly character traits:
Devoted to her family
Delighting in her work
Diligent in her labor
Dedicated to godly speech
Dependent on God
Dressed with care
Discreet with men
These characteristics should define us as women and mothers. Take a look through Proverbs 31 and take note of these similar traits. You see God’s word aligns perfectly and never contradicts it’s self. We understand God’s standard and we also see our desperate need for salvation and grace in Christ.
God does have a plan and if we are following his will (found in his word) our story will end peacefully in his presence forever praising his name! Find joy in this no matter how this day unfolds.
